Honestly, I'm not a big affiliate fan because in the past I haven't gotten 90% of the money promised either because they disappear before they pay out or they have so many exceptions -- paying out once a quarter, has to be over X dollars first, etc. Another negative side is that some of them think that 10% commission or some low amount is worth the 20 hours it takes for us to sell it. Usually the 10% equal $10 and $10 isn't worth my reputation even $1000 actually.

Today's article is not about the pros and cons of being an affiliate member. There are some good affiliate programs out there where you will get a check, their exceptions are small or nil, and the commission reasonable for the amount of time, risk, and reputation you place on the line for their product or program.

This article focuses on collecting their information before you give them the affiliate link so you can increase your mailing list numbers or residual income.

Almost all affiliate referrals are handled by providing someone with the affiliate link. The reader then goes from your place to their place. If this is what you have been doing, take the "L" (for loser) off your forehead, and read this to "get SMART quick."

Stop LOOSING a valuable marketing opportunity -- and stop it now!

Instead, set up a bridge page (also called a portal page or doorway page). Use the terms bridge and portal instead since the word doorway has a separate search engine meaning that can be confusing.

A bridge page works simply like this. You set up a bridge page on your web site. You send them to this page instead of to the affiliate site, collect their information, and THEN send them to the affiliate site.

The objective is to offer them something for fr*e*e that they must register for on that bridge page so you collect their information. In fact, you can offer several things.

You set up two pages actually. One that is the bridge page and the other a thank you page. After you collect their information THEN you send them to the thank you page. On the thank you page, you thank them for whatever it is they did and then give them an option to NOW access the affiliate site.

Here are a few ideas on items you can offer on the bridge page to collect their information:

* To subscribe to your ezine. If you have more than one, list these all. * To register for an ecourse. * To receive an ebook. * Offer your opinion or testimonials on using the affiliate's product/program.

Now, one of the main things most people do not think about is offering them something to purchase. And this is something affiliate offerers lookout for when you sign up to be an affiliate (at least the good ones do). They don't want their competition becoming an affiliate and then snatching the customer on the way to their site. I am chuckling on this one -- I think it is great actually. Most affiliates don't even know this is happening to them.

Here is a duzie of a hint that I've only seen one affiliate program do. This will give you a head start and it's kind of sneaky too.

You can offer something at a price on the bridge page that has to do with that topic (you have a focused buyer here). Example: The affiliate item is a software product. You can write an ebook on the same topic. Yes, will this piss off some affiliates. You bet, but guess what -- that's business. And also guess what -- it's going to take them a while to figure it out what you are doing too. They are so busy trying to obtain more affiliates they don't have the time to research each one.

Offering something for a price isn't as effective as something for fr*e*e. Then again, you have to decide what is your call to action for the bridge page. Is it to collect name and increase your mailing list or to make residual income. Don't get greedy and offer both. It will bite you in the "assets". Too many choices and it confuses the visitor and so they don't make any decision at all and leave without choosing anything -- no freebie, no affiliate link.

When you set up your doorway page, set up the metatags and searchable keywords that you wouldn't otherwise be able to place on your site. Make sure that these same words are in the content.

It's simply a kind of marketing in the internet where marketers sell products or services of certain merchants. Those Internet Marketers earn commissions on sales. Most of the merchants even also pay them for clicks and leads to their promotional websites.

If you are looking for an extra income stream and haven't started your Affiliate Marketing journey, then you better do! Why?

Here are some reasons why...

With Affiliate Marketing,

1. You don't need your own products to sell. Your merchant does the part for you.

2. You don't have to process any payment. Your merchant will do that for you.

3. You don't have to take care of any of shipment. Your merchant will do the job for you.

4. You don't have to take care of those customers' complaints. Your merchant will also take care of it. (though, you have to be very careful in determining which merchants should be your partners. Never pick lousy ones).

Plus...

1. Most of those affiliate programs are free to join.

2. You will have your own promotional site of the product.

3. You can sell several products from several merchants.

4. With smart strategies, you can generate up to thousands of sales when you are asleep!

The most effective way for Affiliate Marketers to promote their merchants' products is through rich-content websites. Have no idea what rich-content websites are? I guess I just have to explain about them in another article...

Can you start your own affiliate program without hassle? This is one of a two part series on creating your own affiliate/revenue sharing program.

Joining an affiliate program is a neat way to make money from your users. However much you can join someone else's affiliate program, so you can set up your own and invite webmasters tosign up.

Why not?

You get...... deals.

Every time someone sends you a visitor who pays you money, you give a portion of that earnings to your affiliate. It's an easy way to generate traffic and produce cash revenues.

Crucially (!).... you don't need to be a programming genius to set up an affiliate program in these more competitive times. There are a whole load of companies out there that offer entire affiliate kits.

Ultimate Affiliate lets you run a fully featured affiliateprogram from your website. It integrates with virtuallyevery payment method, awards down-line commissions, and canhandle high-traffic websites. You can edit the sign-up formto match the "look and feel" of your site as well as deletesome of the optional fields.

The administration area allows you to edit affiliates and commissions, create printable reports of money due, export the data to a text file, view the traffic through your affiliate program, and much more.

Your affiliates can log in at any time and see their trafficand commission statistics as well as change their information and get links and banner code.

Once the program is set up you'll only need to log in once amonth to print out a list of the affiliates, theiraddresses, and the money owed. You can do this quarterly ifyou wish. You can export the payments owed to a text file inPayPal's "mass pay" format and then just upload it to yourPayPal account to pay everyone automatically.

Or, you can simply write your own checks. If you have to pay a lot of commissions, there is a check printing service calledqchex.com. Upload the file and they'll print and mail each of your checks for a fee of about 80 cents.

Alternatively, Locked Area Pro is an advanced member's areamanagement system offering very good security that's easy tomaintain. The system provides a huge list of useful featuresincluding automated sign-up, user account validation, optional random password generation and an administrationapprove/decline account feature.

It also comes with an extremely powerful control panel with an online administration of users, backup, and full customizationfacilities from the browser. A statistics system is also inbuilt in. What more could you want?

Any time you run a program where your affiliates rely onother signups to generate profits, you will eventually havea problem with spam. One of your affiliates will inevitablyget it into their head to blitz the Web with unwanted garbage.

When this happens you need to be ready to take action-otherwise it will cost you! Your Internet company can boot you off your server and you can find yourself blacklisted.

Not good for business.

If you get an email from someone claiming they received spam with your URL, then take it as an early warning. I am not advising you to immediately terminate the affiliate's account, but be sure to contact them to follow up on the complaint. Let your affiliate know you received a complaint and advise them to remove this person from their list.

If you only get one or two complaints, it's probably not spam-the complainants might simply have signed up for an email list and forgotten all about it. You will know when one of your affiliates is spamming, because you will get anywhere from 10 to 100 complaints in the same day all regarding the same URL.

The best thing to do in this case is to immediately terminate or disable the account of the affiliate URL that was spammed.

This ends the first installment of two parts!

This is very important, because your reputation is on stake here! Joining the wrong affiliate programs will only hurt your online business.

First of all, it is almost impossible for you to collect adequate informations on those merchant companies. You certainly can't investigate them thoroughly. Hence, you will never be able to predict their successes or failures.

That's why you must not stress on one single merchant only within your niche.

Pick a couple of the best quality products to promote. Still, you can do some critical researches to reduce risk.

OK, now let's see how we can pick the goods from the bads. Here are some factors that influences the dependability of an affiliate program. The more of these factors are present in a certain program, the more reasons you get to sign up to the program.

Let's see...

1. Great quality products. This is a must. How could you promote something you are not proud of?

2. Good affiliate sites.

3. Good comissions. Normally, solid merchants offer more than 25% of comissions.

4. Free to join.

5. Great Supports. Solid merchants usually train their affiliates through training calls, newsletters and other mediums. They also shows your real-time stats and earnings, send you an email whenever a sale is made.

6. Long-term cookie to lock on the visitors to your site. This way you still can make sales if your visitors return to your site months later.

7. Monthly payment with realistic minimum.

8. Two-tier comissions. Some merchants give you comissions on your referrals' sales. Meaning... if you refer someone to become an affiiate, you can earn comission everytime he makes a sale.

So do some researches before you sign up!

If you have been a home based business entrepreneur for any length of time at all you know by now that there are certain immutable laws that govern success. You know the following:

You have to learn the techniques of marketing your product or service. This usually comes from a combination of reading the volumes of information your are provided with and personal help from your upline coach or mentor. You then have to advertise aggressively. Some of this is through the various online services such as cost per click for higher search engine placement, through link exchange, through the purchase of targeted email lists, or numerous other types of online advertising. Some of the advertising is free and some can become quite expensive. You can also advertise offline through personal relationships, by distributing business cards and flyers, or by taking out classified ads in newspapers and magazines.

You have discovered that you absolutely must have your own website. If you haven't yet thrown in the towel and decided this is all too overwhelming , and you probably haven't or you wouldn't be reading this, then you know you have to find ways to get people to your website because real success in an online business is all about numbers.

Liars may use statistics, but statistics don't lie. You'll only be successful in getting a small portion of the nearly 1 billion internet users to visit your website, and of those who do visit your website only a small portion will spend serious time looking at the business opportunity. And only a small portion of that group will actually "take the plunge" and sign up.

So it really is all about numbers. According to the most recent U. S. Central Intelligence Agency Fact Book, in the next two years internet users will increase by 516 million worldwide. That's almost double the current total population of the United States. So the flip side of the funneling down effect based on the information I just provided is that you're not dealing with a fixed number.

On the contrary, if you do the arithmetic you'll see that 30,000 new internet users enter the world of cyberspace every hour of every day. So instead of the numbers game being an enemy to our attempts to cash in on the online business opportunity, it is an asset, and one that is growing almost exponentially. The old saying "he who hesitates has lost" cannot be more applicable.

Too many online business prospectors lose out because they become impatient. They want that $4000 check this month. They also lose out because they become overwhelmed with the learning curve. Some lose out because they become victims of over choice and spend themselves out of opportunity by trying to do too many things. They either try to put too many products or services on their shelves (getting into too many online businesses) or they get involved in too many advertising campaigns (while paying too many advertising companies) who are also representing thousands of other businesses.

My Dad was in the online business 50 years ago. He pumped gas and oil through rubber hose lines so gas stations could have gas for their customers and homes could have fuel oil to heat them in the winter to keep their residents warm. He taught me a valuable lesson about the online business. He once said to me, "Dave, it's more important for me to make sure my (huge underground) tanks have gas and oil in them than it is make sure my customers' tanks don't run out. Because if I don't have fuel I can't help them even if they do run dry."

What does this have to do with the online business numbers game. If I don't take time to check my own tank occasionally, if discouragement and disillusionment sets in and my tank runs dry, if in effect I become overwhelmed and quit because the task seems too formidable, I lose out on a money making opportunity my Dad could not have dreamed would ever be possible. Thirty thousand new potential customers every hour, which calculates out to 720,000 every day, or 21.6 million every month! No, you won't get all of them, but even if you get one one thousandth of one percent of just the new customers per month, which doesn't account for 934 million current users, you will have added 72 people to your downline every month.

Sound unrealistic? Maybe you can do better than one one thousandth of one percent. You do the math and then figure out for yourself a strategy whereby you can tap into this enormous wealth potential.

This article is the second of my two part series on settingup your own affiliate program. Once you are starting anaffiliate program, you must manage and keep track of it.

The key is to promote your products and services to people who NEED them. Affiliate business is no different. You may create your own affiliate program or you may promote other popular affiliate programs that are related to your product or service.

The best way to manage and track is by creating your own affiliate program website. This is where you can list all your affiliate programs.

Keeping a track of all affiliate programs in a single network is easy. You would generally be given one username and password as well as a single interface that controls all the programs.

However, if you have many of your own affiliate programs or you promote several stand-alone affiliate programs from your website, the task of staying organized becomes a bit more complex.

There are software programs available on the Internet that organize and keep track of all data associated with affiliate programs. A typical database would include some of the followingfields:

*Program Name
*URL
*Email Address
*ID
*Password
*1st Tier Sale
*2nd Tier Sale
*Total commission for month

Some of the advanced software programs also provide analysis and comparison tools. If you take the time to input data about clicks, sales, and page views, impressions, emails sent etc. from your various campaigns and enter all of it into the program, it will show you:

*Click to Sale Ratios
*Impression to Sale Ratios
*Amount Earned Per Impression
*Amount Earned Per Click

Keep a close watch on your activities

Ensure that your website is up and running. The danger in not knowing that your site is down comes when you are running a pay per click advertising campaign. The click costs add up whetheryour site is functional or not.

Check your statistics daily. This will give you a better idea of your income trends and also highlight any area of concern such as sudden decrease in revenue.

Be prompt in answering any queries from affiliate partnersor customers, especially when these are about your productsor services.

One of the main aspects of any affiliate program is residual income. You've got to make the most of every customer. The best way to do this is by promoting affiliate programs that offer residual commission as well as one time sales.Membership sites are a good way to collect residualcommissions.

Track your links - guesswork is no use

Track all your affiliate links. The best way to accomplish this is by setting up tracking software for your affiliate links. There are a number of scripts that will do the job.

Most tracking programs typically allow you to setup tracking links for any product you promote, telling you how many hits each product has received, and where the hits are coming from.

It is not enough to have a few banners and classified ads if you provide an affiliate program. You must provide as much help as possible .You should have tested and proven endorsements, testimonials, sig files, ezine ads, and other unique tools and techniques. You should also make yourself available to answer any questions they may have.

You should determine what methods work best for your affiliate program or one you might promote in a particular medium. For instance, which ezine ads work best and in what ezine; which banner ads produce the greatest clickthroughs and from which sites or banner exchanges; and where on your website is the most effective spot to include a testimonial.

This can only come about through active promotion and looking at results both good and non productive.Assumptions can be tested and the results guide you.Just hoping for the best is a recipe for disaster.

If you can sort out your payment procedures from the start, you will save yourself an administrative headache and more to the point, keep your affiliates happy! Or use a third party like clickbank to pay out and manage instead. Its less flexible than your own set up to begin with but everyone gets paid without you lifting a finger. You just pay out in fees.

This concludes my overview on starting your own affiliateprogram. If there is any one thing I would recommend, it is to track everything you can so you can refine your strategy further and increase your earnings.

Discover a simple four-step way to get bigger affiliate commissions... I'll tell you exactly what those four steps are, and how you can apply this formula right away.

There are obviously many ways to make money online, some simple, some quite complicated...

If you're relatively new to Internet marketing, this is particularly suited for you...

Affiliate programs, the most effective and easy way to make money online that you'll find. most of which are free to join, and can be an excellent way to make money online... But they, like anything else, require use of the proper tools and resources if you're to expect any kind of significant success.

That's the thing... Way to many people hope or even expect to make money online without ANY type of investment.

I can tell you right now, if that is what you're expecting, you might as well call it quits before you even get started. If you're afraid to invest money to start your own business, you don't need a business. You need a job. If you want to make money online, you must also be willing to invest in yourself. It's that simple. (I'm only being honest!)

What you should expect is a modest investment of your time and (ideally) money. Though you CAN succeed without investing a dime, it will likely take you significantly longer than if you're willing to set aside a small budget specifically for online advertising.

As an affiliate, your job is simply to send visitors to the web-site hosting the affiliate program. For each visitor you send who then decides to order, you are paid a commission every time a sale is made.

Affiliate programs are attractive for beginners in particular because you don't have to worry about processing payments, delivering products, etc. And again, most affiliate programs cost absolutely nothing to participate in. Many people earn a full-time income working from home as an affiliate.

Indeed, these are advantages for most ANY person looking to make money online (beginner or otherwise).

However, in order to make significant amounts of money through affiliate programs, you'll still need the proper tools and resources.

After you choose your affiliate programs, your first move is to build your own website.

Well, most people say you don't actually need to have a website to make money online as an affiliate. Indeed, some of the most successful affiliate marketing strategies -- e-mail marketing and classified ads -- don't depend on you having a web site at all.

However, I would like to encourage you to set up a web site as soon as possible. A web site provides you with a 'hub' -- a place where visitors can get more information about your products/service, and discover how knowledgeable you are about these products, without having to contact you directly.

If you market your web site successfully, you'll get thousands of people coming to your site each month -- which translates into more sales as an affiliate. So, the faster you set up a web site, the better your chances of making money online faster.

Affiliate marketing is an extremely tricky subject and so is website advertising.

The reason is simple. Most of those who have mastered these subjects are keeping their mouths tightly shut. Some are releasing their valuable affiliate marketing secrets it in bits and pieces to try and make some quick cash before the methods become completely obsolete. The rest are busy trying to guess the secrets behind the successful affiliate marketing that easily brings in five figure incomes on a monthly basis for scores of people all over the world.

Today is your lucky day because you are about to move a step closer to successful affiliate marketing for whatever affiliate program you are involved with. You are about to read a previously closely guarded secret of affiliate marketing.

I clearly remember the day I discovered this secret rather casually from an article I read online just like you are doing currently. Later I went on to discover other key elements that were critical for the success of the whole program. I have packed all those secrets in this single series of two articles.

Here is the main secret that will multiply the effectiveness of your articles and ultimately your affiliate marketing.

It is possible to multiply the effectiveness of your articles in promoting your affiliate program by making a single step. And that is creating a blog and posting all your articles there.

Do not worry about getting traffic to your blog, it is the easiest thing to do and I will deal with that in part II of this article available at my blog http://big-online-story.blogspot.com

There are 4 very important advantages you will gain by starting a blog and posting your articles there.

1) Blogs always boost search engine visibility tremendously thus making all your articles much more visible and easier to find and therefore much more effective.

Whatever your opinion about them, blogs are rapidly changing the internet. Their popularity is rising by the day and most important search engines love them. Not surprising when you consider that they are constantly being updated even if not by the owner of the blog, by his visitors. Blogs have literally swept web sites aside. Smart online marketers and many involved in affiliate marketing are using them very effectively for website advertising to drive traffic to their websites.

2) You will be able to track and monitor which articles are the most effective in promoting your affiliate program.

Any advertising campaign that is able to measure results, dramatically multiplies its effectiveness. This is simply because you are able to tell which articles posted at which websites are most effective in your affiliate marketing.

Usually your affiliate marketing web site will not tell you exactly where your traffic is coming from. Armed with this information from your blog, you will be able to concentrate your efforts on the web sites where your articles are bringing in the most traffic and you will also focus on the types of articles that are bringing in the best results.

3) You can earn extra income from your articles by carrying google adsense ads at your articles blog.

Many people are convinced that carrying google adsense advertisements at your blog is better than any affiliate program on the net. Better in terms of the earning potential.

My opinion? It is easier to start earning cash much quicker with google ads than any other affiliate program I know of on the net. You see with affiliate marketing where you are looking to earn serious money, you will need to be patient. With google, you simply get the traffic and you start earning almost immediately.

You will need to apply to google adsense who will check out your blog and make a decision whether or not to accept your blog. The decision usually takes about 48 hours. Put some reasonable amount of content on your blog before you apply with google.

What I love about carrying google ads in my blogs is that I am busy building traffic to my affiliate marketing programs and at the same time I am getting paid for my affiliate marketing efforts. I love the net.

4) Having a blog will give you an extra marketing tool that can be very effective.

As mentioned earlier blogs are very popular. Which makes them very effective affiliate marketing tools. You will have heard of RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds which get content right on the desktop of your subscribers' computers bypassing the troublesome ISP email filters.

Currently I do not know of a more effective online marketing tool other than blogs.

It really is very simple just launch your blog, post your articles and learn as you go along, how to maximize on blogs as marketing tools that will bring a huge difference to your affiliate marketing.

      Basic Idea

Affiliate marketing is a type of marketing in which revenue sharing between online merchants and online salespeople (affiliates), whereby compensation is based on performance measures, typically in the form of sales (Pay Per Sale), clicks (Pay Per Click) and impressions (Pay Per Impressions).

Merchants run affiliate programs to generate leads and sales from other Web sites. They pay an affiliate to generate sales from a button, banner, or link placed on affiliate's website, newsletter, e-mail or pay per click ad. For example, if a site owner signs up for any merchant's affiliate program, he will receive banners or links from this merchant that he can place anywhere on his site. Then, if a visitor clicks on this banner or a link on his site and buys something, he will receive a commission.

The introduction of affiliate programs in the late 1990s brought Internet marketing to a new level. The first companies that offered these programs saw sales increase dramatically. These companies basically get free advertising and only pay their affiliates a percentage of the sales they generate. It's a win-win situation for the company that runs the affiliate program.

Now there are thousands of companies in hundreds of industries that will pay commissions to you for sales, leads or impressions.

How does it work?

1. First of all you are looking for products and services sold online and used an affiliate program.

2. Then you should sign up for free as a reseller (affiliate). How to become an affiliate you can find below.

3. After that you should advertise these products and services. How to promote them you can find below.

4. After all you'll receive commission checks.

How to become an affiliate?

There are two ways to become an affiliate:

1. Some merchants have their own affiliate programs. You can join them on their sites.

2. But the most typical is to use Affiliate Program Providers (APPs). There are several large APPs. They connect a lot of merchants and affiliates in different industries. APPs collect payments from merchants and consolidate affiliate reporting and payments. For example, the affiliate places links to the merchant on their website, email, newsletter, or Pay per Click ads. When a potential customer clicks through the link they are sent to a specified page of the merchant's site. If this potential customer buys something, fills out a form, or completes any action desired by the merchant the affiliate is gotten a commission. The APP tracks all elements of the transaction.Joining an APP is absolutely free. You should only fill out a form. The affiliate should usually wait a few days for approval, sometimes applying is automatic. You can find the Top APPs at www.RichTrack.com.

Advantages

Affiliate Programs are the ideal way to get money quickly and easily online:

You don't need to launch a new product;
You don't need to handle any products; vYou don't need physical inventory;
You don't need a huge investment. You can start with $10 and 2 hours a week;
You don't need a website because you can use Pay per Click ads.

Disadvantages

The very important disadvantage is a low click-through to conversion rate.Only a few percent of your visitors will click on a banner or link; of that percentage, a few percent will actually buy something. It can be disheartening to see that there have been thousands of visits to your site, and only small percent of them have bought something you promote.Recommendation: If you focus on the affiliate programs to the theme of your site and the interests of your audience then the better the results you will achieve. Also text links, "odd" ads (i.e. advertising that doesn't immediately look like advertising) will generally give rise to much better results than banners or buttons.

You should be reliant on a merchant's ability to sell to the visitors the products that you're promoting. Of course you can improve the chance of a sale by effectively pre-selling the product or service, but it's still up to the merchant to close a sale. And if they don't sell anything to your visitors, you get nothing.Recommendation: Before promoting any product you should learn it and decide for yourself: "Would I buy it?" If the answer is "Yes" that's greate, but if "No" you should look for better productsto promote.

Here's a few affiliate Internet marketing tips that can help you earn extra money for little effort on your part. Do you currently have a web site that sells products? If you do, developing an affiliate program may be the opportunity you are looking for. An affiliate program is a way to obtain an increased sales level while gaining new customers and increasing awareness of your site. To get started, examine an affiliate Internet marketing tip and see if it's right for you.

The first affiliate Internet marketing tip is determine if starting your own program is right for you. A successful program requires both time and money. You must be willing to work with those that will be your affiliates to help them promote your products. Your affiliates should be treated as business partners in the sense that they are working both for you and with you.

Another affiliate Internet marketing tip is to be careful the percentage you wish to offer and examine how you will pay your affiliates. Most affiliates earn 8% to 15% off the sales price of all the items bought by people brought to your site by theirs. If your profit margins are not high enough that it easily absorb the added expense affiliation brings, you may wish to reconsider your percentages. Most affiliates are paid per click, per lead, or per sale. Determine which is right for your business before offering affiliate programs.

An affiliate Internet marketing tip that deserves to be mentioned is to make sure your affiliates are promoting your sales as they are supposed to be doing. It's just like an employee or business partner that is not holding up their responsibly. You may wish to have a minimum sales requirement quarterly or yearly to keep the affiliate relationship alive. If you keep in mind an affiliate Internet marketing tip or two in your brain while you are structuring your program, surely you will fund success.

Many people look at affiliate programs as one of the easiest and best ways to start a profitable online business. The reasons for this are you don't have to worry about having your own product, collecting the money, shipping, or customer service. The affiliate company takes care of all the hassles that come with owning your own business.

Most affiliate programs are free to join while giving you the opportunity to start a business and build consistent revenue.

Today there are thousands of affiliate programs on the net that you can choose from. You will find all types of products and services that are offered; the key is choosing the right company to represent.

Look for companies that blend in with your own website. For an example, if your websites main focus were "home business opportunities", than an affiliate program that offers products and services on building an Internet business would be an appropriate match. Signing up with targeted affiliate programs will ensure your success as an affiliate as well as create value for your website.

To join an affiliate program, you simply sign up with a company of your choice, and agree to promote their products. They in turn will give you access to their company logo, text links, banners, support, etc. You promote their products by putting their link or banner on your web site. The company will track all sales directed from your site and then they pay you a commission on that sale.

There are also companies that offer a two-tier program, whereas you receive a commission for your direct sells, as well as a percentage of commissions from anyone who signs up as an affiliate that was directed from you.

Keep in mind, that signing up with an affiliate company is not to imply that you literally have nothing to do but sit back and receive checks in the mail. To be successful with this type of business, you need to be motivated and dedicated. It takes time and effort on your part to get your business up and running. Promoting your affiliate program is the key to your success.

The latest statistics say there are over a million affiliates on the net today. The affiliates, who put forth a consistent effort to promoting their affiliate program, are the ones who are successful.

If you should hear stories of people who claim you won't make any money with affiliate programs, it may very well be that they partnered up with a company that is not very well established. Another factor to consider is that; even though there are people signing up with affiliate companies everyday, a good majority of those people may never have applied themselves to being successful. Like with any business, you have to work at it to reach levels of success.

Affiliate Marketing is having Affiliates do your Marketing for you. What I mean by Affiliate is someone who tells people about your product/service and you pay them for a desired response, such as a purchase.

Affiliate Marketing is one of the best ways to get the word out about your product/service.

The best way to pay Affiliates is pay per sale. This means that you only have to pay your Affiliates when they actually make a sale. This reduces your advertising costs dramatically. your Affiliates take on all the risks so you don't have to worry about wasting your money on advertising which may not produce any results.

Using Affiliate is a very cheap way to advertise, however it is very effective. The software required to start up your own Affiliate program can cost only about $50 per month.

Then after that just wait for people to start promoting your product/service for you.

Please remember that 5% of your Affiliates will do 95% of the selling. What I mean by this is that most of your Affiliates will just sit there and do nothing. This can be countered if you teach them what to do, exactly how to do it and providing everything for them so they have to do as little work as possible.

To find out about teaching your Affiliates please see the "How To Super Charge Your Affiliates" article

You don't have to use this form of advertising just to sell your product or service. You can also use it to grow your opt-in mailing list. This is discussed in another article.

How Much Should You Pay Your Affiliates

How much you pay your Affiliates really depends on how much your product/service costs, its profit margin, how much you're willing to give up and what action you want to take place.

Lets say that your product is priced at $100. Lets also assume that it cost you $10 to make it. This leaves you with $90 profit.

How much of this do you want to give away to the person that made this sale possible?

Personally, I believe that you should give a rather high percentage of the profits back to the affiliate (Depending on how many sales they regularly generate), because without them, you wouldn't have made that particular sale at all, so reward them for it.

A fairly decent reward is about 50% of the revenue generated. Your product is priced at $100 so a $50 commission is quite generous. It really depends on your other costs (such as a mortgage) you have, which would help decide on a fair commission to both you and the Affiliate.

Another factor which plays a part is how much additional advertising you do, such as pay per click. For example, if you rely solely on your Affiliates to Market for you, then you may want to reduce the commission you pay to them to help you survive. However, you may want to pay them more, to encourage them to send more sales you way. It really is a judgment call.

On the other hand, if you advertise in other ways effectively, then you can afford to pay higher commissions, because you're not putting all your eggs in one basket.

In the end it's all down to how greedy or generous you are. The best advice I can give you is to pay the affiliate what you think he/she deserves. Hopefully that way everyone is happy and earning their fair share.

That is the key to a successful affiliate program.

There are many affiliate programs you can go to to find real solid product to market online. Most marketers who produce their own product provide these programs that are easily accessible, and can be worked simply by signing up to them. However, there are places you can go, sign up, and have virtually any product in the world at your disposal.

I'm talking about places like Commission Junction, a huge listing of companies who sell online and offer Affiliate programs. All the big name brands are there, so there's no limit to what you can market.

Most of you Internet Marketers are used to thinking in terms of digital products and the first name you probably think of is ClickBank. Well, we know that ClickBank deals only with downloadable products. Commission Junction, on the other hand has affiliate programs mostly for physical products.

If you are into setting up niche markets, you have learned that the online world is not just made up of downloadable ebooks. Most niche markets require affiliate products of physical goods that are shipped by the seller for you. It is in this area that Commission Junction excels.

The advantages of becoming a member of Commission Junction is that you just have to sign up once and that gets you access to every affiliate program they sponsor. This is great for people who niche market through mini-sites because with a few clicks of your mouse, you can quickly plug in product or update product information for all of your niche markets in one session.

If there was a downside to mention it would be that, unlike places like ClickBank, the commissions are somewhat lower. While ClickBank usually carries a 35% to 60% commission on product sold, Commission Junction tends to be in the 7% to 20% bracket.

So if you're hoping to strike it rich marketing one product, then products offered by Commission Junction may not be for you. However, if you're a serious Niche marketer, then you know that you many products to earn a respectable income. One or two products just won't cut it..

In fact, having a membership with Commission Junction, in spite of the relatively lower earning potential per product, is a better deal when you're working niches, because the key to good niche marketing is in finding product that is high in demand yet low in supply. With the number of companies marketing through Commission Junction along with the thousands of product to choose from, one could create mini-site niche markets all day long and still find new and rare product to market.

Thus having ten mini-sites of strong high demand every day products getting 10% commission has a higher long range residual profitability margin than having one site with a 50% commission for each product sold.

Another advantage to having all of your affiliate programs in one place is that your earnings are combined. What this means is that, no matter how many companies you're affiliated with on Commission Junction, each company submits your daily earnings to Commission Junction who, in turn, cuts your check and sends it off to you.

This means less work keeping track of your income, less waiting for accumulated commission checks totaling the usual $100 minimum, and less paperwork come tax time.

Now this may not seem like a big deal to someone who's happy selling one or two products, but if you consider that some niche marketers have well over 100 niche sites, keeping track of everything on a per product basis could get quite overwhelming.

So using a company like Commission Junction has its definite advantages for the niche marketer. Through them you can sell anything from soup to nuts, monitor all of your niche products in one place, and never worry about keeping track of the earnings each niche brings you.

Commission Junction takes care of all that for you. You can find out how much you've earned over all, what earnings you've received from individual affiliate programs, and be assured that your check will reach you in a timely manner.

They also supervise and take care of problems with their sponsored companies, so you never have to worry about a program you belong to going "belly up" while you're aggressively promoting their product.

Yes there are plenty of reasons to join Commission Junction if you're serious about niche marketing. Just take a look at all the companies they sponsor and ponder over all the worry free possible niches you could create through them.

The sky's the limit!

Affiliate programs may be the easiest online business tostart running. Why?

With any online business you must have a product or serviceto sell. First you must create this product or service andthen you must be able to fill orders.

Selling your own product or service also means creating awebsite, learning how to write ad copy, setting up amarketing plan, being able to accept payments online andobviously doing the work. If you're selling a physicalproduct then you will need to make or buy the item, packageit and pay for shipping costs. If you provide a servicethan you will likely have to start by doing free jobs tobuild your credibility and then when you are charging foryour service you are still limited by how much work you canactually handle.

THE MAGIC OF AFFILIATE PROGRAMS

Affiliate programs are a great way to get started in anonline business. In fact there are even some 'SuperAffiliates' who are making fabulous incomes from affiliateprograms. So, what ARE affiliate programs?

Affiliate programs allow you to sell another company'sservice or product and make a commission on every sale orlead. You do not even need to build a website or handle thetransaction. Your job is to drive traffic (customers) toyour affiliate link.

An affiliate link is a special URL code that will identifycustomers coming to the company's site from youradvertising. It will likely be the website address with acode attached to the end.

Some affiliate programs also have tiers. That means ifsomeone who is interested in SELLING the product comesthrough your link and signs up you will also get a smallpercentage of THEIR earnings.

HOW DO I CHOOSE A PROGRAM?

You should research the popularity of some of yourinterests. Try to determine if people are buying thatproduct or service online. There are many sources forfinding that information including free ones such as theOverture keyword tool.

When you have found an area that is popular then type thesubject along with 'affiliate program' into your searchengine and see which programs have services or products forthat area. You can also use an affiliate program directory.

When you have found a program that looks interesting youshould read the terms of the program. Make sure that payoutsare not based on a high commission earning or you may neversee your money. Also try to choose programs with highcommission rates. Often you will find ebooks anddownloadable software has the highest rates as there is nophysical product to make or ship. If you are satisfied withthe terms then you need to sign up - usually a simpleprocess.

START MARKETING

The reason affiliate programs are so great for beginners isthat you only need to focus on marketing - not making - yourproduct.

Many affiliate programs have information on how to marketand give you tools such as banners, product feeds and more. You can also look for other information on marketingincluding writing articles, creating pay-per-clickcampaigns, commenting in online forums etc. As you gainexperience marketing you will make adjustments to yourselling and start creating a wonderful income!

Online affiliate marketing has taken the internet by storm and has proven to be a highly effective way of maximizing website revenue. Why limit yourself to selling your own products when you can profit by selling somebody else's too?

There are thousands of individual affiliate programs offered on the internet, many being through third party affiliate program networks such as OffersQuest, Commission Junction and Linkshare. These companies connect a large number of advertisers and publishers together via their own network. Advertisers sign up through their network to have publishers promote their products and publishers sign up to access a large network of advertisers all at one location. In the process, the affiliate network makes a profit via advertiser set-up fees, monthly account maintenance fees, commissions, etc.

The question is, as a publisher, is it worth using these large affiliate networks or is it better to form direct partnerships with advertisers?

The Good
The primary selling point of third party affiliate networks is convenience. As a publisher, one registration gives you access to tens, even hundreds of advertisers simultaneously. Tracking partner performance is easy, there is only one technical support contact, things are easier and simpler to manage, and best yet, payment is received as one convenient monthly lump sum.

The Bad
Because as a publisher you're utilizing a service, advertisers who also offer a direct affiliate partnership will typically offer a lower commission for publishers who choose to partner with them through a third party network. This is because it costs advertisers money to use the services of a third party. Also, without naming names, some affiliate networks have been known for not tracking sales and leads properly as honestly as they could be (which means money from your pocket). Payment thresholds can often be fairly high - a $50 US minimum is common for international publishers. Finally, a payment delay of two months or more from the date of a sale/lead generation can occur, as the third-party affiliate network waits until the advertiser pays them, before they pay you (the publisher).

Conclusion
In many (if not most cases), having both options of partnering directly with an advertiser or through an affiliate network is not a choice - it's usually one or the other. If an advertiser you like only offers their affiliate program through a third party, you're limited to the advertiser network they've partnered with, or not partnering at all. Affiliate networks are not bad programs to use, just keep in mind the issues outlined above, and you'll be making money in no time!
